Contains a Ngati Porou account of the campaign against the Hauhau on the East Coast, and the campaign against Te Kooti around Gisborne and the Urewera district; also contains notes about Maori customs surrounding the transfer of land, various waiata and information about the arrival of Christianity on the East Coast; also contains a biographical note and whakapapa about Te Kani-a-Takirau.
